Karl-Otto Apel
Karl Otto Apel va néixer el 1922 a Düsseldorf i va morir el 15 de maig del 2017 a Taunus. Va ser professor a les Universitats de Kiel, Saarbrücken i Frankfurt a. M. Va treballat en qüestions sobre el llenguatge i la comunicació lingüística. Coincidint amb Habermas, Apel creia possible establir les bases d’una comunitat de comunicació que, tot i mantenir la necessitat d’una hermenèutica, fes justícia a alguns postulats del racionalisme crític. Apel creia, en contra de Kant, que l’apriori de l’estructura profunda de la raó no és la possibilitat del coneixement ni la universalitat de la ciència, sinó el llenguatge. Apel l’anomenà l’“apriori de la comunitat de comunicació”, que, d’una banda fa possible una comunicació real que no exclou els esquemes conceptuals propis de la comunicació ideal, i de l’altra, garanteix la validesa intersubjectiva del coneixement, permetent la fonamentació de l’ètica.
