The Conference, which took place at the Fontana de Oro in Girona, wanted to stress that being interested in the Catalan university means knowing its history and present and deducing the immediate future. It reviewed what the Catalan university has been like from the 19th century to the present day and explained what our university is like today, considering where it should go. To this end, we were accompanied by four highly prestigious speakers with a long and fruitful career in the Catalan university sector, as can be seen in the following programme:

• 11.30h.–13.00h.: La Universitat de Catalunya: un futur present, by Salvador Carrasco i Calvo (Professor at the University School)
• 16.00h.–17.30h.: La universitat al segle XIX, by Jaume Porta i Casanellas (First President of UdL from 1993 to 2003)
• 17.30h.–19.00h.: Vers un nou congrés universitari català (primer del segle XXI), by Ricard Torrents i Bertrana (First President of the Universitat de Vic from 1997 to 2002)
