The history of Israel is one deeply marked by violence. The Jewish people have too often been its victims. Certainly, one cannot tell the story of humanity without including the brutality that Jewish communities in Europe have suffered too many times. The close link with violence, whether to defend or reject it, is very present in Jewish thought. However, the current government of the State of Israel has openly embraced it in order to consolidate its occupation of Palestine. Violence, however incomprehensible and scandalous it may be, demands attention and analysis. In this series of lectures, we will see how some Jewish thinkers have understood and theorized it.
