THE FIRE THAT DOESN’T BURN
During April and May 1933, a few weeks after coming to power in Germany, the Nazis organised public burnings of books that, according to them, harmed the destiny and essence of the German people. Today, sadly, we see more attacks on freedom of speech and thought. And they are getting closer and closer. From Israel to the United States, not forgetting what is happening at home, the university is in danger. The ignorant and the arrogant despise daily and shamelessly the cultural heritage that the university has the mission to treasure. It is time, therefore, to reclaim free thought, science, letters and books!
That’s why we invite you to take part in the tribute to the authors and books that the Nazis put on the ‘blacklist’ in 1933. Come and read an extract! Let’s show that fire never burns free thought!
