Conferences "Religious diversity in Catalonia"

The Ferrater Mora Chair of the UdG and the Carles Rahola Public Library of Girona organised a series of conferences to present the remarkable diversity of religious confessions in Catalonia and, more specifically, in the counties of Girona.

In addition to the majority and best-known religion, Catholicism, there is a wide variety of churches and religious practices in our land. The aim was to approach some of them, to get to know them, to present them, to discuss them… with a respectful, informative and critical approach. In short, the aim was to approach this diversity not from a doctrinal point of view but as a cultural and social phenomenon, which is necessary to know.

The cycle took place from 27 April to 16 June, and consisted of five lectures and a round table with representatives of different religious denominations in the counties of Girona. The titles of the talks were: Religious diversity in Catalonia: a map, by Mar Griera; Protestantism, by Josep Lluís Carod-Rovira; Islam, by Mostafà Shaimi; Ecosophy, interculturality and the search for new spiritualities, by Jordi Pigem; and Buddhism, by Ramon N. Prats. The moderator of the round table was the director of the Ferrater Mora Chair, Joan Vergés Gifra.
