In order to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Johann W. von Goethe, the Ferrater Mora Chair organised this symposium which took place at the La Mercè Cultural Centre on 9 and 10 December 1999. The symposium was held in two parts - one dedicated to his literary production and the other to his scientific-philosophical production - and included the participation of some relevant national and foreign experts on Goethe’s work (see programme).

All the speakers delivered the texts of their interventions, which were published in a monographic volume of Estudi General, edited by the University of Girona. See an article that appeared in the press about this publication.
