XIth Philosophy Conference "The control society"

The XIth Philosophy Conference for high school students took place on 13 December 2019 at the Faculty of Letters and Tourism and the Faculty of Psychology and Education of the University of Girona, with a final talk in the auditorium of the Institut Jaume Vicens Vives. On this occasion, the topic was “The control society”.

The students studied control as a characteristic element of modern and technological societies, and as a factor that generates dilemmas between security, freedom, domination and privacy. To do so, the young people analysed ideas from different classical and modern thinkers such as Leibniz, Diderot, Bentham and Thoreau.

A total of 260 students from 7 secondary schools in the city of Girona and the Girona area took part, accompanied by around twenty philosophy teachers from the schools.
