Tribute to Josep-Maria Terricabras

Josep-Maria Terricabras, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Girona, died in April 2024. He was the founder of the Ferrater Mora Chair, a professor much-loved by generations of students (both high school and university) and an inescapable public figure in Catalan civil society in recent decades.

On October 9, the University of Girona, through the Department and Studies of Philosophy, the Faculty of Letters and the Ferrater Mora Chair itself, paid tribute to him in the Aula Magna Modest Prats of the Barri Vell campus University of Girona. Just before the event, the Terricabras Fund was inaugurated and a space in the Faculty of Letters was named after him. Read here the chronicle of the event and see the photo report.

You can also see the videos of the parliaments and musical performances that took place there:

At the end of the event, a bouquet of flowers was handed over to Montserrat Martínez, widow of Josep-Maria Terricabras, and a piscolabis was served in the cloister of the Faculty of Letters.

On October 19, 2024 the City Council of Calella organized an act of homage to Josep-Maria Terricabras, in which the Auditorium of the municipal space of Can Saleta was baptized with his name and he was named Honorary Citizen of the city of Calella. See here the video of the event.

The Catalan Society of Philosophy, a subsidiary of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans, also held, on October 22, 2024, a tribute to Prof. Terricabras, with the following interventions: Joan Vergés Gifra (Ferrater Mora Chair, UdG), “Terricabras and mastery” and Xavier Serra (Catalan Society of Philosophy), “Being a philosopher and being political”.
